Frequently asked questions
Short answers about wallets, minting and owning a figure.
Do I need a crypto wallet?
Yes. Coinbase Smart Wallet can be created in a minute with a passkey, with no browser extension. MetaMask and other wallets work too, through the browser or WalletConnect.
Why Base?
Network fees on Base are a fraction of a cent to a few cents, so the fee never dwarfs the figure.
How are serial numbers decided?
In mint order. The first Limited Akari minted is #001, the next #002, and so on. If two people mint at once, whichever transaction Base confirms first gets the lower number. Serials are never random.
Does each figure look different?
Yes. The spirit is always the same character, but the scene around it in the case is generated for each mint: the sky and lantern light, and on Limited, Moonlit and Grail a colourway, a motif and drifting fireflies, petals or embers. Grail adds gold kintsugi, a crest no other figure has, and a gold frame. You pick and see the spirit and edition before you pay; the scene is the surprise, revealed when you open the case. Every option is equally likely, and none of it is listed as a rarity trait on marketplaces.
Do I choose which spirit I get?
Yes. You pick the spirit, the edition and its decorators, and see the figure in its finish before you pay. Only the scene inside the case is a surprise: it is revealed when you open it, and the sky mood is shown in advance.
What are decorators?
Four things you choose for your figure before minting: something at the neck, a little companion, the base it stands on, and an aura behind it. Each has five options, so every spirit has 625 possible builds per edition, and each build can be minted only once. Your build is recorded on-chain with your figure and shown as traits on marketplaces. Free Lantern Night spirits get a random build that nobody holds yet.
What are lantern skies?
The sky in your case comes from the time you mint, on this published schedule. It is never random, and the mint screen tells you the sky you are minting under before you sign.
- Dawn: 04:00 to 12:00 UTC
- Dusk: 12:00 to 20:00 UTC
- Midnight: 20:00 to 04:00 UTC
- The moon shows its real phase on the night you mint.
Festival nights add sky lanterns to every figure minted on that date (UTC):
- Opening lanterns, 24 October 2026
- Night of the spirits, 31 October 2026
- Last lantern, 1 November 2026
- Fair eve, 7 November 2026
- Mask night, 15 November 2026
What is the difference between Open, Limited, Moonlit and Grail?
Open editions have no cap while the drop runs. Limited is capped at 500 per figure, in glossy lacquer. Moonlit is capped at 20 per figure: always a full-moon midnight sky with a silver-leaf finish, at a higher, visible price. Grail is capped at 10, with gold leaf, kintsugi, a unique crest and a special accessory. Once a capped edition sells out, or the drop closes, no more are minted.
What can I race for?
Everything worth racing for is shown openly and goes to whoever mints first. None of it is decided by chance.
- Low serials: serials go in mint order, and #1 to #10 of every edition carry a first ten mark.
- The last ones: capped editions show when only a few are left.
- Moonlit: 20 per figure, first come, at a visible price.
- Festival nights: every figure minted on a published festival night gets sky lanterns. See lantern skies.
What are Lantern Nights?
On announced nights anyone can claim one free spirit. It is random which spirit comes, with an equal chance for every spirit still available, and the scene inside the case is revealed when you open it.
- Free: you never need to buy or hold anything to claim. No payment is possible on a claim.
- One claim per wallet per night, and a set number of lanterns each night.
- A quick bot check keeps the lanterns for people.
- HOKORA pays the network fee when your wallet supports sponsored fees (Coinbase Smart Wallet). Other wallets pay a small network fee themselves.
Nights are listed on the Lantern Nights page and the drops rail.
What if my mint fails?
If you decline in your wallet, nothing is sent. If an edition sells out while your transaction is on its way, the contract refuses it: the price stays in your wallet and only the network fee for the attempt is used.
Can I sell my figure?
Yes, at any time, on any marketplace that supports Base, such as OpenSea or Magic Eden. You set the price there, or accept an offer someone has made. A sale depends on a buyer: there is no guaranteed buyer or price, and HOKORA never buys figures back or supports their price. A 7.5% creator royalty is set on resales, but not every marketplace honours it. Tax on any sale is yours to pay; see the risks.
Will my figure be worth more later?
Nobody can promise that, and we never will. Figures are digital collectibles, not investments, and they may be worth nothing on resale.
Can someone copy my figure?
They can copy the picture, the same way anyone can photograph a painting. They cannot copy the token: the record on Base that says you own figure #412 can only be moved by your wallet. That record is what marketplaces, your vault and your certificate check, so a copy is just a picture.
To check a figure is real, compare its contract address with the one on its HOKORA certificate. Seen a fake, or our art used without permission? See licence and copies.
What happens to my figures if HOKORA shuts down?
They stay in your wallet. Ownership is recorded on Base, not on our servers. The 3D files and metadata are on IPFS, so anyone, including you, can keep a copy pinned if this site goes away.
